Samsung 3 nanometer chip customers are who?

Release Date: 05-10, 2023

International electronics business intelligence learned that Samsung Electronics will use the industry's most advanced 3nm process technology for Nvidia, Qualcomm, IBM, Baidu and other customers OEM chips, is expected to start product supply from 2024 at the earliest... According to THE KOREA ECONOMIC DAILY report, Samsung will use 3-nanometer process for Nvidia foundry graphics processor (GPU), for IBM foundry server central processing unit (CPU), for Qualcomm foundry smartphone application processor, and for Baidu foundry artificial intelligence (AI) chip used in the cloud data center. These customers decided to entrust Samsung with foundry work, taking into account Samsung's 3nm technology and the need to diversify supply sources. Regarding Samsung's foundry strength, the vice president of Samsung Electronics Foundry Division said at a business briefing held on the 15th for institutional investors that the company is not behind TSMC in terms of customer relationships for 3nm processes. Reports indicate that these customer companies have selected Samsung Electronics as the entrusted manufacturer after taking into account factors such as Samsung's 3nm technology capabilities, strategic partnerships from the past, and the need to secure multiple supply chains. The industry predicts that Samsung, which has lagged behind TSMC in the 4 to 5 nm competition in the last 1-2 years, will create a turnaround opportunity through the 3 nm process. Previously Qualcomm in 2022 Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit has said that the future 3, 4 nanometer AP chip will be TSMC foundry, but after entering the GAA process, it is possible to take a synchronized order Samsung, TSMC and other multi-supplier strategy of multiple foundries. At the end of June this year, Samsung Electronics officially announced the mass production of 3nm GAA process chips, the first will be applied to high-performance, low-power computing field of semiconductor chips, and plans to expand it to the field of mobile processors. Compared with the 5nm process, its 3nm process power saving efficiency, chip performance by 45% and 23% respectively, the area will also be reduced by 16%. In addition, Samsung also plans to commercialize the more advanced 2nm GAA process in 2025 and become the world's largest foundry in 2030.
