  At a cost of$4 billion,GF opens expanded wafer fab in Singapore


  As Singapore's most advanced semiconductor facility to date,the new facility covers 23,000 square meters of space.The expanded fab will produce an additional 450,000 300mm wafers per year,bringing GF Singapore's overall capacity to approximately 1.5 million wafers per year,according to the information.


  The building's design prioritizes sustainability,with both the administration building and the manufacturing building receiving the Green Mark Gold Award from the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore.It is equipped with the latest technologies and solutions to manage resources and waste,recycle and reuse water,and improve overall energy efficiency.


  Gehring said the new facility will enhance GF's global manufacturing footprint in Singapore,the US and Europe,providing customers with enhanced supply chain flexibility and business resilience.

  Singapore currently accounts for 11%of the global semiconductor market.The new 23,000-square-meter facility will create 1,000 high-value jobs in Singapore,95%of which will include equipment technicians,process technicians and engineers.
